WACOL has established and runs the Migrant Information Centre in Edo state and is poised to upscale in
other parts of the country as part of its effort to combat and prevent trafficking in persons and unsafe and
irregular migration that increases people’s vulnerability to human trafficking. Currently, we have
functional four Centres, one in Benin City and three in our project communities namely: Sakpoba
(Nomayo) in Ikpoba, Okha LGA; Urhonigbe in Orhionmwon LGA; and Uromi in Esan North-East
LGA.
The MIC is pivotal to providing information and building linkages with other partners for skills and
access to jobs that will empower trafficked persons and migrant returnees to shun unsafe migration and
embrace local livelihood sustainability alternatives. We as an organization believe that the sustainability
of anti-trafficking action hinges on connection to livelihood sustainability since desperation for survival
is implicated in the push and pull factors that cause trafficking in human beings and migrant smuggling.
