Prof. Joy Ezeilo, founder of the WomenAid Collective (WACOL), an NGO, has commended efforts of Anambra stakeholders to fight violence against women and the girl child.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Ezeilo made the commendation at the end of its one day multi stakeholders strategic conference to eliminate violence and harmful practices against women and girl child.
Mrs Egodi Igwe, the Programme Officer and Head of Communications, in a communiqué made available to NAN in Awka, stated that the conference was fruitful.
Igwe said that the conference was between the Traditional Rulers Council of Anambra, stakeholders and the WomenAid Collective (WACOL).
WACOL was in partnership with the Ford Foundation West Africa, with support from Ministries of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Justice, Women Affairs and the 5050 Action Women of Anambra State.
The communique reported that the conference was attended by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Collins Nwabunwanne, the Commissioner for Lands, Prof Offornze Amucheazie
Also in attendance was Mrs Ify Obianabo, Commissioner for Women Affairs and the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Sylvia Ifemeje.
The communique noted that traditional rulers across the three senatorial districts under the umbrella of the Anambra state Council of Traditional Rulers, were in attendance.
