VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT POSITION: COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER LOCATION: ENUGU DEADLINE: 31st AUGUST, 2025

Women Aid Collective (WACOL), is an independent, non-political, nongovernmental, and non-profit organization registered as a company limited by guarantee, i.e., as a charitable organization (RC: 388132). WACOL’s vision is a democratic society free from violence and abuse, where the human rights of all, particularly women and young people, are recognized in law and practice.  Its mission is to assist in the education, social, economic and political development of women and young people through various interventions such as training, research, advocacy, education, community outreaches, shelter, free legal and financial aid, intra-familial conflict resolution, library/information and learning platforms. WACOL works throughout Nigeria and in the West African sub-region. Its offices in Nigeria are located in eight states, namely: Abakaliki (Ebonyi state), Awka (Anambra state), Abuja (FCT), Benin (Edo state), Calabar (Cross River State), Enugu (Enugu state), Katsina (Katsina state), Owerri (Imo state). WACOL, in general, works in four thematic areas, namely: Gender Based Violence (GBV); Political participation and governance; Peacebuilding and conflict resolution; and Research, empowerment and skills building.

WACOL is seeking for a suitable candidate to fill the Position of Communications Officer in her head office (Enugu). The position provides an opportunity to manage the organisations overall internal and external communications including digital communication.

Main Responsibilities

  • Managing Media Relations: Writing and distributing press releases. Building relationships with journalists and media outlets. Responding to media inquiries.
  • Content Creation: Writing content for websites, newsletters, social media, speeches, brochures, and reports. Ensuring brand consistency and clear messaging
  • Social Media Management: Planning and managing posts across platforms. Monitoring engagement and responding to comments or questions.
  • Internal Communication: Keeping employees informed through newsletters, updates, and intranet content. Supporting leadership in communicating with staff.
  • Event Promotion & Coordination: Promoting organizational events. Coordinating communication logistics for conferences, launches, or public events.

 

Skills and Competencies [Minimum]:

  • University decree on communications, media, journalism, or other relevant field with more than 5 years post-qualification experience. Digital communication expertise in the development sector will be an added advantage.
  • Strong team player in fast-paced environments, used to organize, prioritize and support multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Expertise in social media management and digital marketing.
  • Knowledge of website development (WordPress, HTML, or CMS tools).
  • IT troubleshooting, data management, and cybersecurity knowledge.
  • Ability to use design tools (Canva, Adobe, etc.) for content creation.
  • Strong ability to execute work with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens.
