WACOL supports vulnerable groups

WACOL

2026-04-07 06:18:02
WACOL significantly bolstered its capacity to support vulnerable groups exposed to GBV by equipping 20 traditional rulers with specialized skills in mediation, mitigation, and conciliation in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), and Pens and Voices Limited. Thirty-five (35) traditional leaders were additionally trained as paralegals to strengthen their understanding of existing legal and policy frameworks at national, regional, and international levels, in relation to the prevention and protection of women and girls from gender-based violence and respect for their human rights. Through comprehensive training sessions, these leaders are now empowered to proactively tackle gender-based violence (GBV), resolve community disputes, and enforce relevant laws within their jurisdictions. This focused effort not only amplifies the leadership capacity of local authorities but also lays a solid foundation for enduring shifts in community attitudes and practices—transforming the fight against GBV and fostering safer, more equitable communities in South-Eastern Nigeria.
